Part 1

October 31, 2020

[As I write this it is Tabernacles and we are busy, but we are having a wonderful time. So it seems appropriate as we give thanks to Yahweh for the years’ harvest and other blessings received during the past year that we have a lesson on faith for the coming year.]

(Mat 8:28-34 KJV) And when He [Yahshua] was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. 8:29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Yahshua, thou Son of Yahweh? art thou come hither to torment us before the time? 8:30 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding. 8:31 So the devils besought Him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine. 8:32 And He said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters. 8:33 And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils. 8:34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Yahshua: and when they saw Him, they besought Him that He would depart out of their coasts.

(Luk 8:26-39 KJV) And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. 8:27 And when He [Yahshua] went forth to land, there met Him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. 8:28 When he saw Yahshua, he cried out, and fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Yahshua, thou Son of Yahweh most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. 8:29 (For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) 8:30 And Yahshua asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. 8:31 And they besought Him that He would not command them to go out into the deep. 8:32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought Him that He would suffer them to enter into them. And He suffered them. 8:33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. 8:34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. 8:35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Yahshua, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Yahshua, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. 8:36 They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed. 8:37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought Him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and He went up into the ship, and returned back again. 8:38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought Him that he might be with Him: but Yahshua sent him away, saying,

8:39 Return to thine own house, and shew how great things Almighty hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Yahshua had done unto him.

Verse Mathew Verse Luke

28 Two mad men

27 One mad man who wore no clothes

29 The demons acknowledge Yahshua

28 The man acknowledges Yahshua and begs mercy

32 Yahshua sends demons into the swine

32 Yahshua sends the demons into the swine

33 The herders fled into the city and told everything

33 The herders fled into the city & country and told it

34 The people begged Him to depart

35 The people filled with great fear begged Him to depart even having seen that the man was healed, clothed, and in his right mind siting at Yahshua’s feet to be taught.

38 The man begs to go with Yahshua, but is send back to his own house. 39 He told what was done for him

[This is one of those lessons that people use to point out discrepancy in scriptural record. Matthew and Luke are two men with different backgrounds regarding the same scene. Matthew the tax collector was counting and keeping tract of the number of people and the number of pigs killed.

Luke the doctor was looking at a person who needed to be healed and as a good doctor he notes the progression of the illness and the results of the cure. Whether there were one or two men may not be certain, but it is clear that Luke the doctor was interested in the one seeking healing. That is perhaps a reminder for us that when we are witnessing, that we concentrate on those looking to be healed rather than trying to bring in those who have no interest in what is being offered.

Some suggest that Matthew, Mark, and John were not present and their abbreviated accounts were from hear-say. Yet Luke 8.22 says His disciples were with Him in the boat. All agree the man was healed and the pigs killed. For me the most touching was the man’s gratitude. Do we appreciate spiritual healing as much as we should? The physical healing can often be seen, but the unseen spiritual healing of the heart, which is of greater value, is what Yahshua wants to offer.]

(Mat 9:2 KJV) And, behold, they brought to Him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Yahshua seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

[This is the story of the sick man let down through the roof of the house. Note that it was their faith, either the faith of those that brought the man to Yahshua or their faith plus the faith of the sick man. All involved had faith in Yahshua’s ability and His willingness to heal all who came to Him believing.]

(Mat 9:20-21 KJV) And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind Him, and touched the hem of His garment: 9:21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch His garment, I shall be whole. 9:22 But Yahshua turned Him about, and when He saw her, He said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

[This woman had faith. She did not speak out loud but her heart was right and her faith was rewarded.]

(Mat 9:18-19 & 23-26 KJV) While He spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshiped Him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. 9:19 And Yahshua arose, and followed him, and so did His disciples…9:23 And when Yahshua came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, 9:24 He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed Him to scorn. 9:25 But when the people were put forth, He went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. 9:26 And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.

[The daughter who was raised from the dead had no part in her own healing, it was the faith of her father that was honored by Yahshua. The crowd’s lack of faith did not hinder what Yahshua could do, or would do. I think many of us do not put forth such requests for fear (or lack of faith) that Yahshua will not give us the desired request. We reason if the person is not healed or raised it will reflect badly on Yahshua or our own faith.]

(Mat 9:27-31 KJV) And when Yahshua departed thence, two blind men followed Him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. 9:28 And when He was come into the house, the blind men came to Him: and Yahshua saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto Him, Yea, Master. 9:29 Then touched He their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. 9:30 And their eyes were opened; and Yahshua straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. 9:31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad His fame in all that country.

[It was the personal faith of the seekers that allowed the healing. How hard it would have been not to tell how this wonder happened when asked about how their sight was restored.]

(Mat 9:32-34 KJV) As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a dumb man possessed with a devil. 9:33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. 9:34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.

[Have you ever wondered about the nature of the disease/condition when certain healing is done on TV? Can apparent healing be accomplished without true faith?]

(Mat 15:22-28 KJV) And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto Him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Master, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. 15:23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and besought Him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. 15:24 But He answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 15:25 Then came she and worshipped Him, saying, Master, help me. 15:26 But He answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. 15:27 And she said, Truth, Master yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

15:28 Then Yahshua answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

[A mother’s desire for her child’s welfare made this mother bold, for it was considered a sin for a woman to touch the rabbi’s person. Yahshua explains why her request is inappropriate. Still she persists and gives her answer, as a lesser personage she was still in the house therefore entitled to what the children did not consume. So it is with many who seek the blessings from Yahweh and Yahshua without offering their hearts in exchange. So are some among us who do what is expected of them to be accepted, but their hearts are not yet given in exchange.]

(Luk 17:11-19 KJV) And it came to pass, as He went to Jerusalem, that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 17:12 And as He entered into a certain village, there met Him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: 17:13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Yahshua, Master, have mercy on us. 17:14 And when He saw them, He said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. 17:15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified Yahweh, 17:16 And fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. 17:17 And Yahshua answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 17:18 There are not found that returned to give honor to Yahweh, save this stranger. 17:19 And He said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

[The ten had already been sent from their neighborhoods because of the disease and therefore in order to be restored to their families they had to have the priest declare them clean. This took place in the area of Samaria & Galilee (north of Judea), and the man was not a Jew and therefore a stranger, but one who needed the priest’s OK to return home. It may seem strange, but often those outside have more faith in Yahweh and Yahshua than those within the house. They just do not know that their Father and Elder Brother are waiting for them to open the door and fellowship. How sad that those of the household do not fully appreciate the gifts they have at their disposal.]

(Mar 9:16-29 KJV) And He asked the scribes, What question ye with them? 9:17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; 9:18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. 9:19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto Me. 9:20 And they brought him unto Him: and when He saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. 9:21 And He asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. 9:22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if Thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. 9:23 Yahshua said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Master, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief. 9:25 When Yahshua saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. 9:26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. 9:27 But Yahshua took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. 9:28 And when He was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? 9:29 And He said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

[Another parent seeking help for their child, a child who could not ask for themselves. Because the disciples could not cast out the demon the father had doubt that Yahshua would be able to do the deed. Yahshua answers with His own if. IF YOU CAN BELIEVE. The father’s answer has resonated in my very being for years. If I, the one requesting help, can believe all things would be possible. Please note when Yahshua cast the demon out He did not bind it, but commanded the spirit to return no more. Yahshua plainly states that prayer, often rendered, combined with fasting leads to power over the most powerful of demons. Yahweh said the fasting that pleased Him was a fast to break any bond of wickedness in ourselves. If we are free from sins’ power in our own lives certainly then we will have power over evil in others.]

(Mar 1:14-15 KJV) Now after that John was put in prison, Yahshua came into Galilee, preaching the Good News of the kingdom of Yahweh, 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of Yahweh is at hand: repent ye, and believe the good news.

[Yahshua waited until John had fulfilled his work by baptizing HIM and completing the task set before him, then He went forth to teach and heal and build the faith of the people so they could receive the good news. We have looked at many examples of personal healings, but what of the faith of Yahshua’s apostles and disciples?]
