For My Name's Sake

November 3, 2018

[The phase “For My name's sake” is found 15 times though out scripture. If we are to pay attention when we are told two times and three times secures a thing, how important is it to know and revere Yahweh and Yahshua's names?]

(Isa 48:1-2) Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of Yahweh, and make mention of the Almighty of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness. 48:2 For they call themselves of the set-apart city, and stay themselves upon the Almighty of Israel; Yahweh of hosts is His name.

[The indictment is to those that call themselves Israel and swear by His name and depend on Him do so as if they were living righteous lives. When you claim His name as your Master, All mighty, Most High, etc. you must not do so while living un-righteously. Our reputations with the world and the brethren either bring joy and commendation to Yahweh or they bring shame on His name. In the world there used to be a saying, “the only thing that is truly yours is your name.” In the world this can also be stolen from you, but with Yahweh none can take what He holds in His hand and that is where His children are.]

(Isa 48:3-5) I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of My mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass. 48:4 Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass; 48:5 I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.

[Look at Nebuchadnezzar, only by the power of Yahweh was his kingdom restored to him after his seven years of madness. Once an king is disposed by another there is no securing his kingdom for the future. Only with Yahweh is this possible.]

(Isa 48:6-7)Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them. 48:7 They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.

[There have been times when I have heard or read truth and I have received it and it felt 'at home' in my heart as if it was returning – not as a new thing but renewed. That is not what is being said here! It seems there are those who are always looking for 'NEW' truth while not living up to what they have. There are also those who seek to prove that there is nothing new and that if you dig deep enough into those places that are not of Yahweh you can find real truth hidden by the 'church'. Yahweh is warning us as He warned Israel of old, so pay attention! Stick to the scriptures.]

(Isa 48:8-9) Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb. 48:9 For My name's sake will I defer Mine anger, and for My praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.

[No earthly ruler would allow to remain in their service one who had brought shame to their company or country's name. Yahweh is the only perfect ruler and He is the originator of the second chance. It would appear that it is only because of Yahweh's desire to have a people that will enter into covenant with Him that Israel is allowed, yea, caused to endure that Yahweh's name not be lost.]

(Isa 48:10-11) Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. 48:11 For Mine own sake, even for Mine own sake, will I do it: for how should My name be polluted? and I will not give My glory unto another.

[I have never refined silver but I have refined lead and it takes heat and the removal of all impurities. The furnace of affliction is the troubles of this life and if you do not have problems have you already reached perfection, or are you in a place of the quite rest His children are promised? The times of rest are also for our refining for it is often in these times that one can begin to think they have it made with Yahweh, or to drift away simply because they are not on their guard when they feel safe in Yahweh and Yahshua. Yahweh wants His name to remain pure. Woe to those who deliberately change it or use it in appropriately. The word glory [derived from the name of a heathen god] can also mean honor. Yahweh hates mixed worship for it is a pollution and brings evil into the assembly.]

(Isa 66:5) Hear the word of Yahweh, ye that tremble at His word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for My name's sake, said, Let Yahweh be magnified: but He shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

[Hang in there – I read the end of the book and Yahweh is victorious and He will reward each as He sees fit and it will be wonderful.]

(Eze 20:9-16) But I wrought for My name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made Myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt. 20:10 Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. 20:11 And I gave them My statutes, and shewed them My judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them. 20:12 Moreover also I gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am Yahweh that sanctify them. 20:13 But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness: they walked not in My statutes, and they despised My judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and My Sabbath’s they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out My fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them. 20:14 But I wrought for My name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out. 20:15 Yet also I lifted up My hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands; 20:16 Because they despised My judgments, and walked not in My statutes, but polluted My Sabbath’s: for their heart went after their idols.

[Yahweh gave us His statutes and judgments that we might learn to live in such a way that we would become fit company for HIM! When we turn from His teachings we turn from Him and build a wall between us and Him. These walls shut out other 'good' as well for walls are indiscriminate.]

(Eze 20:19-22) I am Yahweh your Almighty; walk in My statutes, and keep My judgments, and do them; 20:20 And hallow My Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that ye may know that I am Yahweh your Almighty. 20:21 Notwithstanding the children rebelled against Me: they walked not in My statutes, neither kept My judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted My Sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out My fury upon them, to accomplish My anger against them in the wilderness. 20:22 Nevertheless I withdrew Mine hand, and wrought for My name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.

[Look at verse 20! All this that we might know Yahweh as our Almighty!

Not for our sake's because we are not worthy, but we are beloved.

Our obedience is a witness to the world that Yahweh is the Most High, Almighty, Creator of all and giver of all good.]

(Eze 20:42-44)  And ye shall know that I am Yahweh, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for the which I lifted up Mine hand to give it to your fathers. 20:43 And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed. 20:44 And ye shall know that I am Yahweh, when I have wrought with you for My name's sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Most High Yahweh.

[There will come a time when Yahweh's true people will be returned to Israel and all the people will see themselves as they are in the sight of Yahweh and Yahshua. Thank you Yahweh for Yahshua! Thank you Yahshua for being willing to bear my shame and punishment.]

(Eze 39:7) So will I make My set-apart name known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not let them pollute My set-apart name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am Yahweh, the Set-apart One in Israel.

[I was going to make this the last verse of the study but after spanking a child needs to be reassured they are still loved and this verse is a verse of love.]

(Mat 10:22-25) And ye shall be hated of all men for My name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. 10:24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 10:25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

[Hang on help is as near as prayer! Have patience for Yahweh's time is not the same as ours but experience has taught me that He does arrive at the exact time He is needed. All our worry will not speed up the process but it is not to His honor for it says we doubt His promises. The last part of verse 23 has been a problem for me until I looked at the context. Yahshua is talking about the last days, not His last days. There will be a revival in Israel and the good news will once again be preached by those who have the truth. Name calling is always a favorite pass time of those who wish to draw the attention away from themselves.]

(Mat 19:27-30) Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 19:28 And Yahshua said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. 19:30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

[Rewards for obedience do not necessarily come in this life time, and you may not be first in line but you will receive the reward the Father has determined and you will be satisfied.]

(Mat 24:8-13) All these are the beginning of sorrows. 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for My name's sake. 24:10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

[Yahweh will save those that are willing and obedient if they remain steadfast to the end. He does this for His name sake not because we are worthy, but because we are willing.]

(Mar 13:10-13)  And the good news must first be published among all nations. 13:11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Set-apart Spirit. 13:12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. 13:13 And ye shall be hated of all men for My name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

[There are those who teach if we stepped up evangelism we can speed up Yahshua's return. We know that Yahweh is in control and scripture teaches that all time is in His hands. Steadfastness is called for. That means loyalty to the path He has set your feet upon and that with your permission.]

(Luk 21:12-18) But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for My name's sake. 21:13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony. 21:14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: 21:15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. 21:16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kin folks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. 21:17 And ye shall be hated of all men for My name's sake. 21:18 But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

[More promises for the faithful. He will speak though our mouth when we are called to witness for Him. The promise of no lost hair is not promising it won't fall out but that Yahweh is keeping it in His memory and as long as He remembers it, it still exists.]

(Joh 15:20) Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My saying, they will keep yours also. 15:21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not Him that sent Me.

[Those who refuse to believe do so because they do not know Yahweh!]

(Act 9:10-16) And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Master in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Master. 9:11 And the Master said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, 9:12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. 9:13 Then Ananias answered, Master, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to Thy saints at Jerusalem: 9:14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on Thy name. 9:15 But the Master said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto Me, to bear My name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 9:16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for My name's sake.

[We all know this story – but Paul was not the last chosen vessel – be careful that you do not refuse to hear the message because the messenger is not what you expect.]

(Rev 2:1-7) Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith He that holdeth the seven stars in His right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 2:3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. 2:6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that over cometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of Almighty.

[We know even if we do not think about it, that Yahweh reads minds! We have His name and we labor to keep it pure but many HAVE lost their first ardor, that fire that will not let you stay silent. We need to repent and ask Yahweh to set us on fire for Him anew!
