If Yahweh Be With Me!
November 2, 2019
[How many times have we been told we cannot bargain with Yahweh even if Abraham did?]
(Gen 28:10-12 TLV) Then Jacob left Beer-Sheba and went toward Haran. 28:11 He happened upon a certain place and spent the night there, for the sun had set. So he took one of the stones from the place and put it by his head and lay down in that place. 28:12 He dreamed: All of a sudden, there was a stairway set up on the earth and its top reaching to the heavens—and behold, angels of Almighty going up and down on it!
[Jacob is going to fetch a wife in obedience to his parents wishes. Certainly his thoughts were on his mission, not Yahweh. He may have been thinking of the dangers from before and behind. Surely he was not prepared for this vision.]
(Gen 28:13 TLV) Surprisingly, Yahweh was standing on top of it and He said, “I am Yahweh, the Almighty of your father Abraham and the Almighty of Isaac. The land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your seed.
[First thing I noted was that Jacob was not named as a follower of Yahweh, only those that came before. As it was then it is now. We bring up children and try to teach them to follow a certain path, but ultimately it is up to them to make that decision! Some follow the physical example set for them, but their hearts are not in it personally. Others go a different path without regard to the teachings they have received. But the ones that gladden our hearts are the ones that follow our teachings better than our examples.
The second thing I noted was that there is no 'if' in this verse. So if this is all the info I have can I safely assume there is no 'if' involved?]
(Gen 28:14-14 TLV) Your seed will be as the dust of the land, and you will burst forth to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed—and in your seed. 28:15 Behold, I am with you, and I will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land, for I will not forsake you until I have done what I promised you.”
[Yahweh's promise is seemingly given without any requirement from Jacob. It is exactly what He promised to Abraham and will be the fulfillment of that promise.]
(Gen 12:1-3 TLV) Then Yahweh said to Abram, “Get going out from your land, and from your relatives, and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. 12:2 My heart’s desire is to make you into a great nation, to bless you, to make your name great so that you may be a blessing. 12:3 My desire is to bless those who bless you, but whoever curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
[Yahweh was looking out for you and me even centuries ago! The Jewish people's knowledge of Yahweh has been a indeed blessing to all the nations of the earth. It has been said that they have traveled the entire earth at one time and there are bits and pieces of that proof in our own land in the form of His name being found on cave walls and on stones. All of this because men were willing to leave all behind to spread the Word of the Good News. Why would Yahweh trust one man to do this great thing?]
(Gen 17:9-11 TLV) Almighty also said to Abraham, “As for you, My covenant you must keep, you and your seed after you throughout their generations. 17:10 This is My covenant that you must keep between Me and you and your seed after you: all your males must be circumcised. 17:11 You must be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and this will become a sign of the covenant between Me and you.
[I could not find a scripture that says Yahweh knew Abraham would teach his children to follow Yahweh. So here is a condition, if you will, an 'if' for the blessing. Not only do Jews circumcise, but most American's used to do so as well.]
(Gen 21:1-4 TLV) Then Yahweh visited Sarah just as He had said, and Yahweh did for Sarah just as He had spoken. 21:2 So Sarah became pregnant and gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time that Almighty had told him. 21:3 Abraham named his son who was born to him—whom Sarah bore for him—Isaac.
21:4 Then Abraham circumcised Isaac, his eight-day-old son, just as Almighty had commanded him.
[Yahweh fulfilled His promise and Abraham proved to be obedient to Him. Since Yahweh knows each of our hearts so He knew Abraham's heart. He knew Abraham's future mistakes before he made them, still He knew that Abraham would find his way back to obedience through repentance. Yahweh was certainly the Almighty of Abraham.]
(1Ch 12:17-19 TLV) Some of the children of Benjamin and also from Judah came to David at the stronghold. 12:18 David went out to meet them and answered them saying, “If you come to me in peace to support me, then my heart will be united with you. But if it is to betray me to my adversaries, when my hands have done no wrong, then may the Almighty of our fathers take notice and judge.” 12:19 Then a spirit came upon Amasai, leader of the 30, “We are yours, David, on your side, son of Jesse. Shalom, shalom to you, and shalom to him who helps you, for your Almighty supports you!” So David welcomed them and made them leaders of the troops.
[David is the example, as was Abraham, of a faulty human whose heart was willing to be obedient to Yahweh. Sure he fell, sometimes hard, but he always repented and returned to Yahweh. None of us is perfect, even if someone says we are! David's willingness to repent and return to Yahweh is the example of power yielded to Yahweh's will. We have smaller kingdoms but they also need to be yielded to Yahweh's will.
Then may it be said of each of us, “your Almighty supports you!”]
