Shavuot, Pentecost

May 31, 2020

[Today is a day of rejoicing for all who believe! The Jews celebrate this day as the day Yahweh gave us His Law/Torah. The Christians celebrate it as the day the Set-apart spirit was given. Both are right, so since we follow Yahweh’s commands we celebrate the day as both!]

(Exo 16:1-8 KJV) And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. 16:2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: 16:3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to Almighty we had died by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger. 16:4 Then said Yahweh unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in My law, or no. 16:5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. 16:6 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that Yahweh hath brought you out from the land of Egypt: 16:7 And in the morning, then ye shall see the magnificence of Yahweh; for that He heareth your murmurings against Yahweh: and what are we, that ye murmur against us? 16:8 And Moses said, This shall be, when Yahweh shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that Yahweh heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against Him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against Yahweh.

[One and one-half months from the parting of the sea and they have already forgotten all that had happened, or chose not to acknowledge it.]

(Exo 16:23-26 KJV) And he said unto them, This is that which Yahweh hath said, To morrow is the rest of the set-apart sabbath unto Yahweh: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. 16:24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein. 16:25 And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto Yahweh: to day ye shall not find it in the field. 16:26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

[Yahweh gave Israel firm instructions and here He has set their week, and ours if we are following Torah, to be 7 consecutive days ending with the Sabbath. The beginning was give as day one, the Sabbath as the 7th and it was given as a command, not a suggestion. He gave no ‘sign’ as the beginning, only His words, but should that not be enough? The weekly cycle was to be continuous without a break. This is one of the commands that Israel has been exact to follow. They may not have always kept it properly, but they never set it aside and so lost count. The giving of the manna was the only sign connected to the Sabbath rest.]

(Exo 19:1-2 KJV) In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai. 19:2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

[In the second month of their existence as a nation Yahweh set their weekly rotation and gave them the Sabbath rest. Now after they have had time to practice the Sabbath they are to receive more instructions.]

(Exo 19:3-6 KJV) And Moses went up unto Almighty, and Yahweh called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; 19:4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto Myself. 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people: for all the earth is Mine: 19:6 And ye shall be unto Me a kingdom of priests, and a set-apart nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

[The word peculiar is not given a Strong’s number but is tied to treasure, which includes peculiar as special among its class. So we are special among mankind to Yahweh. Therefore we will be fit to fill the positions of priests and kings, in the future reign, not in the here and now. Why not now? Because the kingdom is not established yet here on this earth. When Israel existed under Yahweh there were priests and kings, and when the temple is rebuilt there will be priests again, but not kings. The Israel of today is not a spiritually directed kingdom, it is ruled by popular vote just as our country is. Let us be sure no matter where we live that Yahweh is the king in our lives.]

(Exo 19:7-9 KJV) And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which Yahweh commanded him. 19:8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that Yahweh hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto Yahweh. 19:9 And Yahweh said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto Yahweh.

[All of us have given the same answer when we asked for baptism. Have we been any more faithful than they were? I remember how hard it was when I first began to keep the 7th day Sabbath, especially in regards to employment. I finally became self-employed when I came to acknowledge the feasts so I could live in obedience. That is not possible for everyone and let us be accepting of our kin in their struggles to obey in a world set firmly against the Sabbath. Have you heard that small still voice? They heard it as thunder, so how could they not fear to disobey?]

(Exo 19:10-15 KJV) And Yahweh said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, 19:11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day Yahweh will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

19:12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

19:13 There shall not a hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount. 19:14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes. 19:15 And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.

[Coming before Yahweh was not to be taken as a common thing. The people were given three days to get ready. They were told to wash their clothes and to suspend sexual relations for those three days before their day of instructions. Do we prepare our hearts and bodies to come before our King of the Sabbath and other high days? Do we come seeking knowledge that will fit us for the kingdom?]

(Exo 19:16-18 KJV) And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. 19:17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with Almighty; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. 19:18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because Yahweh descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

[In our study on the Mark of the Beast there were also trumpets, thunders and lightnings, so all Yahweh’s proclamations come in a manner they cannot be ignored. Yet people seem to forget as soon as the sound dies down. It is like the first love – it loses the power to produce enough heat to sustain the fervor of obedience. It takes time spent privately in His presence to build a stockpile of that spiritual fuel that can give us the power to stand and be counted.]

(Exo 19:19-22 KJV) And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and Almighty answered him by a voice. 19:20 And Yahweh came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and Yahweh called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up. 19:21 And Yahweh said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto Yahweh to gaze, and many of them perish. 19:22 And let the priests also, which come near to Yahweh, sanctify themselves, lest Yahweh break forth upon them.

[Moses had already instructed the people, but Yahweh says they are not obeying. Go back and re-instruct them. Let not their natural curiosity cause them to sin. The curiosity of man has led to many beneficial findings, but it has also led to much sin. Moses was to remind the priests as well to set themselves apart lest they fall under condemnation.]

(Exo 19:23-25 KJV) And Moses said unto Yahweh, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it. 19:24 And Yahweh said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto Yahweh, lest He break forth upon them. 19:25 So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.

[Moses says, I have already done what you ask and they are obeying. But Yahweh knew their hearts and sent Moses back to warn them again and to set physical barriers as a reminder. Only Moses and Aaron were to ascend this time. Why people find this hard to understand I do not know, but it seems to go against the very nature of mankind to be obedient in the extreme, and in the mundane. To listen and heed instruction is the surest way to be pleasing to Yahweh. To not add our requirements nor to negate in the smallest way His commands seems almost to hard and unnecessary to many. So the commandments were given with great happenings and in a manner that is still discussed today so it could not pass from our remembrance.]

(Act 2:1-4 KJV) And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 2:4 And they were all filled with the Se-apart Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

[Once again this is a noisy happening, not something that could be ignored or forgotten. This is the promised gift of His spirit to rest in and on Yahshua’s followers. The tongues spoken of here are plainly different languages of the world as the next section points out. It is not speaking in a private language.]

(Act 2:5-13 KJV) And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 2:6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 2:7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 2:8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 2:9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 2:10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of Almighty. 2:12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 2:13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

[The gift of languages was given with the gift of the Comforter. Not all who are saved receive the same gifts. At the time of this gift giving it was necessary for the spreading of the Good News to the rest of the world. Yahweh desires for all to have the opportunity to know Him through Yahshua’s sacrifice for their past sins. To belong to Yahweh we have to admit to ourselves first, and then to the world, that we are sinners, and that we NEED a savior. As always those who do not wish to hear will mock those who do receive it with gladness. As we enter into the blessings of this day are we open to receive what ever spiritual gift Yahweh has for us. Each gift carries with it the responsibility to share.]

(Act 20:16 KJV) For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.

[There are those who claim that with Yahshua’s sacrifice all the feasts were done away with, yet here is Paul hurrying to get to the temple to keep this feast, also known as Shavuot. May our hearts be as intent on obedience!]

(Jer 31:27-30 KJV) Behold, the days come, saith Yahweh, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast. 31:28 And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith Yahweh. 31:29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge. 31:30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.

[Those days are upon us and have been since Israel was re-established. The nation has indeed been seeded with men and beasts. Both coming from all over the earth. Still there are differences of opinion about who belongs there and who does not, but Jew and the mixed multitude are living together under Jewish rule. Each trying to influence the other, and along come those seeking Yahweh’s truth and Yahshua’s covering to stir the pot.]

(Jer 31:31-33 KJV) Behold, the days come, saith Yahweh, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which My covenant they brake, although I was a husband unto them, saith Yahweh: 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith Yahweh, I will put My law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their Almighty, and they shall be My people.

[After Israel has been built and inhabited, AFTER THOSE DAYS, and Yahweh has written His laws on the hearts of many thousands in this land alone. We are the people spoken of here, we are the people who have opened ourselves to receive both Yahweh and Yahshua’s spirit; to be taught His teachings and instructions, Torah. We claim to be His people and that He is our Most High Almighty, and we hold none above HIM. Let our walk and our talk testify that our claim is a valid one.]
